Designing and developing research projects in Operations Management – from concept to publication
Targeted at young academics in general and alumni of the EurOMA Doctoral Seminar in particular, the EurOMA Young Scholars Workshop is conceived as a way to support the career development of young scholars in the field of operations management (OM) by teaching and sharing with them major skills needed in an academic career. Important skills are related to the following subjects:
- Supervising MSc and PhD students.
- Teaching OM to MSc and MBA students.
- Designing and developing OM research projects from concept to publication.
- Developing your career
- Developing theoretically rigorous and managerially relevant OM research.
Time and place
The EurOMA2016 Young Scholar Workshop will be arranged on Sunday June 19th at NTNU, Realfagsbygget, from 9:00 to 13:30.

Federico Caniato is Associate Professor at the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano, teaching Supply Chain and Purchasing Management in both undergraduate and graduate courses, and he is the director of the Master in Supply Chain and Purchasing Management. His research interests are in the fields of Supply Chain and Purchasing Management. In the last years, he has focused on Sustainability and Supply Chain Finance. He authored several international publications on various Operations Management journals, and he is Associate Editor of the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management.
Des Doran is Associate Professor in Operations and Supply Chain Management and Director of the MSc Global Supply Chain & Logistics Management programme at the University of Sussex, UK. He earned his PhD at Portsmouth University and his MBA (with Distinction) at Warwick Business School. He has published widely in the field of modular supply chains and is an Associate Editor of IJOPM. Des is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).
Rui Sousa received his PhD from the London Business School. His research has been published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Decision Sciences, International Journal of Operations & Production Management and the Journal of Service Research. Rui serves on a number of Editorial Review Boards (e.g., JOM, IJOPM, JBR) and has served for six years in the Board of EurOMA. He has extensive experience in conducting case-based research and has taught courses on the case study method internationally, including at the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM, Brussels). His present research interests include service operations, operations in the digital economy and operations strategy. Rui is Professor in Operations Management at the Catholic University of Portugal (Porto) and Director of the Service Management Lab.
Application Process
Scholars who participated in the 2015 Young Scholars Workshop will receive an invitation and have to confirm their participation in the 2016 workshop by sending an email to hboer@business.aau.dk before April 22, 2016.
First time applicants are requested to send a CV and proof of their EurOMA membership by e-mail to hboer@business.aau.dk before April 22, 2016.
Notification of acceptance will be sent out not later than May 6, 2016.
